Tom is the respected captain of the Good Ship Perth Film Studios, steering Australia’s newest screen facility with a steady hand and an impressive level of operational experience. He relocated to Perth from hipster central Hackney after serving as Director of Operations at Sky Studios Elstree in London – one of the UK’s most modern, sustainable and innovative studio complexes. 

At Sky, Tom led operations from prelaunch through to full operation, accommodating major productions including Wicked, Paddington 3, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and Jurassic World: Rebirth. Prior to that, he spent much of the past decade in senior leadership roles across the UK studios sector. 

Today, Tom balances bigpicture strategy with the practical realities of making a large, complex studio actually work. When not navigating meetings, briefings and industry conversations, he can usually be found embracing Perth life — often riding a fancy bike with the quiet confidence that only professional gear and formidable calves can provide. The oat lattes, notably, survived the move. You can take the boy out of Hackney… 

Easter Egg: Tom holds the (entirely unofficial) WA record for most bags of salt and vinegar crisps consumed in a 24hour period. Leadership takes many forms. 

With deep experience in operational delivery – most recently as Head of Facilities for Venues Live at Perth’s iconic Optus Stadium – Rob’s spent his career making sure intricate operations simply work, often without anyone noticing how much effort that takes. 

With a strong background in technology systems and large-scale operations, and longstanding ties to Western Australia, Rob brings calm, consistency and a solutions-first mindset to Perth Film Studios. He’s the person quietly holding everything together while everyone else gets on with the glamorous movie stuff. 

Out-take: Rob used to be a reggae DJ – yes, we were surprised too – and is also the most generous member of the team when it comes to volunteering himself as the butt of all jokes. A true team player in every sense.  

James leads business development and industry engagement at Perth Film Studios, spending his days talking to producers, practitioners, partners and agencies — and turning ambitious ideas into workable plans. He brings a line producer’s mindset and an exhaustive, practical understanding of how projects actually get made. 

Alongside his industry development work, James is also a producer of multiple films, including the award-winning feature, The Surfer, starring Nicolas Cage, which helps explain his low tolerance for impractical thinking and theoretical conversations that don’t survive contact with reality. He knows the process because he’s lived it. 

Straight-talking, collaborative and relentlessly focused on positive outcomes for the WA screen industry, James is big on relationships and allergic to fluff. Legend has it he might actually be the nicest man in the WA screen industry – though he would strongly prefer that this topic is avoided, along with questions about his exclusive devotion to checked shirts, or any time The Tiges have a bad weekend. 

Directors’ Cut: James is a qualified cinema projectionist. Yes, the real kind. Yes, he will notice if it’s out of focus. And tell you.

Heather brings sharp financial instincts and serious business nous to Perth Film Studios, with experience across property, resources, engineering and food manufacturing. A Chartered Accountant who trained at KPMG, she’s held senior finance roles in the UK and now keeps the studio’s numbers honest – and genuinely useful. 

She’s known for clear thinking, calm judgement and making smart decisions – impressively, all without drinking coffee. She also carries the intrinsic bravery of someone who has survived multiple camping trips with three small children, which explains a lot. 

Proudly the team’s resident Scouser – from the posh part, apparently – Heather brings warmth, wit and a refreshingly practical approach to everything she does. 

Plot Twist: Heather is a secret Robbie Williams superfan. (Yes, even the early stuff.) 

Njeru is a mechanical engineer and MBA with 25 years’ experience across project transitions, operations, facilities and asset management – which is a polite way of saying he’s very good at making major facilities function exactly as they should. He’s best known for helping transition Optus Stadium from design and build into full operation, a role that requires technical smarts, teamwork and an impressive level of calm.  

Originally from Kenya, Njeru brings a global perspective and a nononsense, outcomes-driven approach to Perth Film Studios. Most recently, he was Facilities Management Account Manager at Edith Cowan University, where things ran smoothly – a result few would describe as coincidental. 

From the Cutting Room Floor: Njeru politely but firmly rejects cricket, citing its most obvious flaw – it is a sport named after an insect – and is similarly unmoved by AFL, which he regards as a winter counterpart designed primarily to keep cricketers fit in the off-season. 

Jessy looks after communications and stakeholder engagement at Perth Film Studios, drawing on more than 20 years’ experience across film, advertising and television in every genre – with artistic merit ranging from awardwinning to ‘we don’t talk about the reality TV-casting director years.’ If it’s been commissioned, broadcast, cancelled or quietly regretted, she’s probably worked on a version of it. 

Fostering strong relationships is what Jessy strives for, grounded in the belief that work progresses best when people feel heard and supported.  

A strange cultural hybrid, Jessy grew up between New Zealand and the UK – a characterbuilding childhood, if not a convenient commute. Jessy has a tendency to name-drop celebrity encounters. She is directly descended from William The Conqueror, but doesn’t like to go on about it… 

Behind The Scenes: Jessy was asked – twice – to audition for a late ‘90s girl group. She declined on the grounds that she couldn’t sing, a concern no one else appeared to share. 

Amy is the organisational glue that keeps the day-to-day operations at Perth Film Studios on track. As Operations Coordinator, she brings clarity, calm and an impressive ability to keep many moving parts moving in the same direction – often simultaneously, and usually without anyone noticing how much coordination that actually requires. 

Practical, highly organised and quietly unflappable, Amy is at her best when things get busy (which they do) and our expectations become ambitious (which they usually are). She’s the person who makes sure details don’t slip, plans don’t unravel, and everyone knows what’s happening – even when it’s changing. Has been known to respond to bribery by ice-cream.  

B Roll: Amy recently holidayed in Hobbiton. She did not steal any props. We asked, and were secretly disappointed. 

Graeme is a dual qualified maintenance technician with 50 years’ experience across mechanical, electrical and gas systems – enough time for most things to have broken at least once, and for him to have fixed them. His career includes maintaining some of Western Australia’s most complex facilities, including Optus Stadium, the Perth District Law Courts, and St John Hospital Subiaco. 

Safety-focused and relentlessly practical, Graeme is known for calm problem solving in high pressure environments and fixing things properly the first time. At Perth Film Studios, he has a habit of appearing quietly when something fails, resolving it, and disappearing again before anyone can ask how he did it.  

Post-Credits Scene: Graeme was planning to retire – but Perth Film Studios made an offer he couldn’t refuse…
