What is Perth Film Studios?
A: Perth Film Studios is a purpose-built, technically equipped screen production facility located in Western Australia. Designed to attract international and domestic feature films, television series and commercials, Perth Film Studios offers high-end infrastructure and support spaces tailored to meet modern production requirements.
When will Perth Film Studios be operational?
A: Perth Film Studios is currently in its pre-operational phase. The facility is scheduled to open and begin welcoming productions in 2026.
Where is Perth Film Studios located?
A: Perth Film Studios is located in Malaga approximately 30 minutes from the Perth CBD and 15 minutes from Perth Airport. It is strategically positioned on key transport routes with easy access to services and accommodation.
Who owns and operates the studio?
A: The studio is operated by Home Fire Operations Pty Ltd under a long-term agreement with the Arts and Culture Trust (ACT), a statutory authority of the Western Australian Government.
What makes Perth Film Studios different from other Australian studios?
A: Perth Film Studios combines purpose-built infrastructure with proximity to diverse filming locations, strong government support through incentives, and a growing local industry. The studio is supported by a State Government screen strategy and a committed effort to build workforce and supplier capacity.
BOOKINGS & ENQUIRIES
How do I enquire about booking a sound stage or production space?
A: Enquiries can be submitted via the online enquiry form available on the Perth Film Studios website. Our team will respond promptly to discuss your project requirements and availability.
Can I tour the studio before booking?
A: Yes, site visits will be available by appointment once the facility is operational. During the pre-operational phase, we may provide virtual tours or floorplan walkthroughs upon request.
What facilities are available for hire?
A: Perth Film Studios features four state-of-the-art soundstages totalling 90,000 square feet / 8,200 square metres. Each soundstage is equipped with its own workshop, lock-up, and dedicated support buildings, including make-up rooms, wardrobe space, and greenrooms. We also offer production offices, set construction areas, an extensive backlot, boneyard, screening room and secure parking. Detailed floorplans and specifications are available upon enquiry.
Can local productions access the facilities, or is it only for large-scale projects?
A: Perth Film Studios is open to both local and international productions of varying scale. We are committed to supporting Western Australian screen creators as well as large-scale national and global productions.
Are short-term and long-term bookings available?
A: Yes, Perth Film Studios offers both short-term and long-term bookings, depending on availability and production needs.
FACILITIES & SERVICES
What size are the sound stages?
A: The four purpose-built sound stages range in size and total approximately 90,000 square feet. Each stage is equipped to support a wide range of production requirements.
What support spaces are available?
A: Support spaces include wardrobe and costume areas, makeup rooms, green rooms, dressing rooms, production offices, meeting rooms, laundry, storage, and flexible-use spaces.
Does Perth Film Studios offer post-production facilities?
A: While Perth Film Studios does not operate in-house post-production facilities, we work with local partners and can provide recommendations for post-production support within Western Australia.
Is there equipment for hire on-site?
A: At this stage, equipment hire is not managed directly by Perth Film Studios. We will connect productions with local suppliers or assist with coordination upon request.
Who can hire the studio?
A: Our facilities are available to local, national, and international productions, including feature films, TV series, commercials, and digital content creators.
We are committed to supporting Western Australian screen creators as well as large-scale national and global productions.
What are your operating hours?
A: Our standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 pm. Extended hours and weekend access are available for productions upon request.
Do you offer on-site production support?
A: Yes. Our operations team provides logistical support, onboarding, and coordination to ensure smooth day-to-day operations for all productions.
Are the studios open to members of the public?
A: Perth Film Studios is a secure site and not open to the public or visitors without an appointment. However we offer public open days which will be promoted by our social media channels – see our contact page to sign up for information.
Can we bring in our own crew and suppliers?
A: Yes. Productions are welcome to engage their own crew and suppliers. Perth Film Studios does not directly engage production cast and crew but does maintain a directory of local professionals and services to support your needs.
ACCESS & LOGISTICS
Is there parking available for cast, crew, and production trucks?
A: Yes. The facility includes dedicated parking for cast and crew as well as loading zones and staging areas for production vehicles and trucks.
How close is the studio to Perth Airport and the CBD?
A: Perth Film Studios is approximately 15 minutes from Perth International Airport and 30 minutes from the Perth CBD.
Are public transport options available to the site?
A: Public transport options are available via nearby train stations (Ballajura) and bus routes. The studio is also accessible via car, rideshare, and taxi services.
Are there accommodation options nearby for cast and crew?
A: Yes. A range of accommodation options are available in the Perth Metropolitan area, including hotels, serviced apartments, and longer-term rentals.

Does Perth Film Studios work with Screenwest or Ausfilm?
A: Yes. Perth Film Studios works closely with Screenwest and Ausfilm to promote WA as a filming destination and to support inbound productions.
Are there local crew and service directories available?
A: Yes. Perth Film Studios can provide access to industry directories and facilitate introductions to local crew and suppliers.
COMMUNITY & INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT
How is Perth Film Studios working with the local industry?
A: Perth Film Studios actively engages with local suppliers, practitioners, training organisations, and government to ensure the WA screen industry is connected to productions utilising the facility.
What opportunities are available for emerging filmmakers or students?
A: Educational partnerships and on-site learning opportunities are being developed with WA institutions. Further details will be announced in the lead-up to operations.
Is Perth Film Studios involved in First Nations engagement and storytelling?
A: Yes. Perth Film Studios recognises the Whadjuk Noongar people as the traditional custodians of the site. We are committed to respectful engagement and supporting First Nations voices and storytelling.
Will there be events, tours or public programs available at the studio?
A: Once operational, Perth Film Studios will host industry events, tours and public programs. These will be announced through our website and social media channels.
